If you can’t get your game to run smoothly, then this guide should help you find a new laptop that will do that while also having some other nice qualities. This guide should be helpful to people who are looking for laptops that can run The Sims 4 but also excel in other things like games, programming etc.
This list will be updated whenever new laptops meet the minimum requirements listed below. If you come across a laptop that is not on the list and meets the criteria then please let me know in the comments below.
After purchasing a new laptop, I have compared it to my previous laptop that ran The Sims 4 pretty well and here are some details on how this comparison worked. The Sims 4 System Requirements
The minimum system requirements for The Sims 4 are surprisingly low. They are almost the same as The Sims 3 ‘s requirements. Only one additional perk is required: 1GB of RAM (but 2GB is recommended).
I wish EA provided detailed system requirements like the ones I’ve included here. This would make it easier for gamers who like to upgrade their PCs or play Sims 4 on a laptop. That said, PC gamers and laptop users should be able to run The Sims 4 on high graphics settings with the following specifications.
The Sims 4 System Requirements for PC
OS: Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 – all 64 bit versions Processor: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 4000+ or equivalent (For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 or equivalent) Memory: At least 2 GB RAM Graphics: 128 MB of Video RAM and support for Pixel Shader 3.0. Supported Video Cards: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, Intel GMA X4500 or better.
Storage: 4 GB available space (60 MB – video card)
The Sims 4 System Requirements for Mac OS X
OS: OS X Lion (10.7), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), or OS X Mavericks (10.9) Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo processor Memory: At least 2 GB of RAM Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120, Intel HD 3000 graphics or higher Storage: 4 GB available space
Laptop Device Specs for Sims 4
I’ve included detailed specs on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite P50-A. The laptop has an i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM (2GB is the minimum required for Sims 4).
I did some research on other laptops and concluded that laptops with: i5-3330/3360/3470/3570/3630QM processor; Intel HD 4000 graphics; 6 GB RAM should be able to run Sims 4 on high settings.
On the other hand, laptops with: AMD A10-5745M processor; Radeon HD 8650G (or equivalent); 8GB RAM can most likely run Sims 4 on medium/high settings.
Please note that laptops with Intel Core M-5Y71 (1.20 GHz, up to 2.90 GHz with Turbo Boost) should be able to run Sims 4 on high settings as well.

What’s the CPUmark benchmark?
CPUmark is a benchmarking tool that simulates various aspects of CPU usage by playing back real applications. Apps usually associated with multi-threaded processing (ex. Photoshop, Premiere Pro) are best processed on CPUs with high core counts (8+). However, if you don’t do much processing then even 4 cores may be fine.

The Sims 4 is a very resource intensive game, and therefore it performs best when played on high-end laptops (though by no means does it require one). As a result, most laptops are able to run the game at least passably, but some will have a much better experience than others. A few signs that your laptop may not be very capable of running the Sims 4 is if it’s older than three years or if it has fewer than four gigs of RAM.

There are various different Sims 4 related benchmarks out there, but the benchmark I know for sure works on all laptops running Windows is CPUmark. Download it here .
Once you’ve downloaded the benchmark, open it up and let it run its tests. You can leave it running in the background if you want to get a more detailed idea of how your laptop handles the Sims 4, but at least 30 minutes should be enough for it to give you an accurate average score. Anything above 2000 is good, anything above 3000 is great, and anything 4000 or higher means you are guaranteed not to have any problems running the Sims 4 on your laptop.
So, how can you tell if your laptop will fare well with the Sims 4? Well, in short: look at the benchmark and compare it to what your laptop is capable of. If your laptop’s score falls within that 2000-4000 range then it should be able to handle the Sims 4 on at least Low settings.
What are some other ways I can tell if my laptop is capable of running the Sims 4?
The most obvious way to measure your computer’s performance, besides looking at its benchmark score, is to simply try playing the game. If you don’t have it installed already, go ahead and install Origin . It’s free, it won’t launch automatically at any point, and it will give you access to all your Sims 4 content.
